Orientations Enhance Exercise Experience, Knowledge

The more you understand about your personal fitness level, your workout goals, and the equipment you use, the more effective and successful your workout regimen will be. At the Glen Ellyn Park District’s Ackerman Sports & Fitness Center, members and non-members can receive a walk-through of the fitness center in a group setting to increase their knowledge of the equipment offered and how it should be used.

“These drop-in orientations are offered the second Tuesday of each month, from 5:30 – 6:30 pm, for ages 14 and up,” said Stacey Lim, personal trainer for the Glen Ellyn Park District. “No registration is required.”

Participants can expect a thorough introduction to all the workout equipment at Ackerman SFC. “We’ll go over how to use the older and the new equipment, from cardio and weight machines to free weights and other items,” added Lim. “We have a variety of materials that many aren’t aware can be used in an exercise routine. I’ll demonstrate how to use them, and will offer opportunities for everyone to try them out. My goal is to expand our participants’ knowledge about all the different types of equipment we offer at Ackerman Sports & Fitness Center.”

Everyone will benefit from the drop-in orientations. “Newer or prospective members may want to learn more about the fitness center, and longer-term members may want to learn new ways to change up their exercise routine,” explained Lim. “If anyone has seen certain types of equipment and wondered how to use it, these sessions will satisfy their curiosity. At the end of each orientation we’ll have time for additional questions and answers.”

The orientations will offer a variety of benefits to participants. “Knowing how to use all the equipment will provide comfort and confidence when they utilizing the fitness center,” said Lim. “It’s also common for people to get stuck in an exercise routine where they use all the same machines, and keep working the same muscle groups. These sessions will increase each participant’s knowledge regarding how to expand and improve their own exercise regimen.”

For members who are new to the fitness center, the orientations will help them learn more about what is available. “We also offer complimentary private orientations for new members if they’d prefer a one-on-one session with one of our personal trainers,” added Lim. “They can sign up for that at the front desk.”
