On Saturday, December 1, Ackerman Sports & Fitness Center hosted the annual “Shop with a Cop” event. Children start their day at Ackerman SFC having breakfast with Santa Claus and participating in games and activities before heading out to shop for holiday gifts escorted and transported by a law enforcement officer within their squad car. This is a very special event for the Officers and the children involved and the Park District is happy to be able to provide the location for the day!

Organized by members of the Glen Ellyn Police Department in partnership with the Glen Ellyn Park District and the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office, the event is designed to help children in need throughout DuPage County by providing them with funds to buy presents and essentials for themselves and their family. It’s hard to understand why some people make the choice to throw their trash on the ground rather than find a waste receptacle to dispose of it. Studies show that the main reason people litter is because they don’t have convenient access to a trash can, not because they don’t care about the environment. As a reminder, the project addressed the complete replacement of the main parking lot serving Ackerman Sports & Fitness Center and the upper Ackerman Park soccer fields.
